COVINA, Calif. (KABC) -- A man was shot by police at a gas station in Covina after a chase and reported assault on the eastbound 210 Freeway in Glendora, which was fully shut down as part of the investigation Friday morning.
It all unfolded around 3 a.m. when California Highway Patrol officers responded to a possible assault on a tow truck truck driver on the freeway at Grand Avenue, the agency said. They tried to stop the suspect, but that person fled the scene and a chase ensued.
The chase ended at a gas station on Arrow Highway and Citrus Avenue in Covina. Details were limited but the CHP said officers were involved in a shooting. The suspect was struck and taken to the hospital. No officers were hurt at that scene.
The tow truck driver involved in the initial reported assault was also taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Over on the 210 Freeway, all eastbound lanes were expected to remain shut down until further notice due to the police activity. That created a significant traffic backup in the area.
