MIDDLETOWN TOWNSHIP, N.J. (KABC) -- Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino from MTV's "Jersey Shore" was arrested Tuesday following a fight at a tanning salon.

Sorrentino was charged with simple assault after the afternoon confrontation at the Boca Tanning Club in Middletown, NJ. The 31-year-old reality star owns and operates the salon with his family.

He posted $500 bail and was released. A court date has yet to be set for Sorrentino.

Officers went to the salon around 2 p.m. on a report of a fight in progress, said police Detective Lt. Stephen Dollinger. He didn't have details on what sparked the fight or who else was involved.

Interesting timing, with Sorrentino due to return to reality television this summer in the TV Guide Network's "The Sorrentinos," which follows 'The Situation' and his family as they open their new tanning salon franchise.

Sorrentino has been involved with Boca Tanning since 2011, when he was named the face of the business and received an ownership stake.

Sorrentino rose to fame on the "Jersey Shore" in 2009 and the program ran until 2012. He also appeared on season 11 of ABC's "Dancing With The Stars" in 2010.
