Police say when officers arrived, paramedics were already there treating the toddler. The little girl was rushed to a hospital where she later died.

A preliminary investigation shows the mother was moving her vehicle in the carport area when the child walked in front of the car without the mother knowing.

"At this time, neither impaired driving nor distracted driving appear to be factors in the collision," said police in a statement.

Anyone who may have witnessed the incident is asked to call Long Beach Police Detective Ashley Van Holland at 562-570-7355.
