Tortoise seen in video escaping from burning shed in Fullerton after heat lamp ignites fire
FULLERTON, Calif. (KABC) -- A pet tortoise escaped a fire that destroyed the shed she lives in after a heat lamp fell and ignited her enclosure in Fullerton.
The incident, which was partially captured on surveillance video, happened on Feb. 8, according to the tortoise's owner, Hyeri Tom.
The female reptile, named Leo, kicked into what Tom described as "sports mode" as the flames erupted inside the shed.
The footage shows the unharmed tortoise making a surprisingly quick getaway. Neighbors spotted the fire and extinguished it before it could spread, Tom said.
She shared the video on TikTok, urging other tortoise owners to secure their heat lamps.
"This could've ended very differently," Tom wrote.
What caused the heat lamp to fall over was unclear.
