Violent mob livestreams attack on South LA taco truck and employees

SOUTH LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Video shows a mob of suspects using baseball bats to assault workers and vandalize a taco truck in South Los Angeles. The violent attack was apparently livestreamed on social media.

Surprisingly, the mob of attackers didn't take any money, according to the owner.

The attack happened Sunday at midnight at the Tacos Los Poblanos truck parked at Avalon Boulevard and Slauson Avenue.

According to the owner, a mob of men showed up at closing time, yelling expletives in English and Spanish. Then, they started vandalizing the taco truck.

The owner didn't want Eyewitness News to show his face or use his name out of concern for his safety.

"When one of my employees called me, 'Please, please call the police because about 25 peoples hit us with baseball bats and metal.' It was scary," the owner said.

The owner's daughter also didn't want to go on camera. She said what's disturbing is that the group was livestreaming the attack.

"In one of the security footage videos from our food truck, actually, you could see that one of them was, had their phone out and was livestreaming it on TikTok, which... where do you get the idea of live-streaming a crime? You're vandalizing a business, and you're assaulting people. It doesn't make any sense to me," the owner's daughter said.

Los Angeles police are investigating the attack. So far, no arrests have been made.

The truck, which was seriously damaged, is at a repair shop. The one now parked at Avalon Boulevard and Slauson Avenue is another of their three food trucks.

The estimate on the damage, according to the owner, is over $10,000.

The family has set up a GoFundMe to help employees financially with medical bills and repairs to the truck.

"It's pretty crazy because people are just trying to make a living right here, and it's just vandalizing and not even having a specific goal they're going for, just vandalizing is crazy," customer Erik Garcia said.

One employee was taken to the hospital. The owner said the employee is now recovering at home with his pregnant wife.

Anyone with information on the mob that attacked the truck is encouraged to contact LAPD.
