NEW YORK CITY (KABC) -- Up-and-coming rapper Bobby Shmurda and members of his GS9 crew were arrested Wednesday in connection with gang-related shootings and drug trafficking in New York City.

Ackquille Pollard, the rapper's real name, was apparently just leaving Quad Studios in Times Square when he was arrested, authorities say.

Numerous guns were seized in the operation.

Shmurda was supposed to perform at 12:30 p.m. in a "secret spot," in the city, according to his Twitter.

The 20-year-old rapper is among a group of defendants in an indictment that will remain sealed until their arraignments Thursday in Lower Manhattan.

Prosecutors say the arrests are part of what has been a long-term investigation into drugs and guns conducted by the Special Narcotics Prosecutor.

Shmurda was arrested earlier this year for gun possession.

The Brooklyn-born rapper is best known for his hit song "Hot Boy" and his signature dance move called the "Shmoney Dance."

Also arrested was Chad Marshall, aka Rowdy Rebel.
