Josh Groban helps Deedra Ervin after home burns

LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- During round two of "Rising Star" on Sunday, the West Coast voters showed their strength and pushed through two singers who were on the bubble.

Shameia Crawford is a fan of the West Coast save. It pulled her through to another round. The same goes for Megan Tibbits, who is from Michigan but now lives in Studio City.

Six others made it through, including two other local performers: Palmdale's Adam Jaymes and Sonnet Simmons, who lives in West Hollywood.

During the show, Josh Groban stepped away from his host position and showed one contestant a simple act of kindness.

While Deedra Ervin was in California for the show, her family's house in Virginia burned down. Groban told Ervin he wanted to be involved in helping her and her family.

"I didn't expect that, so it really is nice to know that somebody notices what you're going through, because it was really an overwhelming thing for me," she said.

"We were all so moved by her story, having gotten to know her this last week, just what a tremendous young woman she is," Groban said. "I'm doing a concert in Virginia, where she's from, and it's going to be my honor visit with her, with her family, to help her out in some way, hopefully we're going to be able to raise some money and get her life back in order."

Ten more artists will sing their hearts out and try to raise the wall next July 6 at 9 p.m. on ABC7.
