SANTA CLARITA, Calif. (KABC) -- Skeletal human remains were discovered near a ravine in Santa Clarita Monday morning.

Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Homicide Detectives responded to the 2400 block of Bouquet Canyon Road where the remains were found around 9:40 a.m.

Workers who were cleaning debris from the riverbed discovered several bones, authorities said.

Authorities said they do not have any reason to believe the bones are connected to any recent missing persons cases in the area.

"We're just now beginning our investigation. Obviously at this stage we don't know the age or sex or even the cause of death. It could be a non-criminal death, but according to a member of the coroner's office these bones are months to years old," LASD Lt. Steve Jaunch said.

The cause of death and identity of the victim will be determined by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical-Examiner Coroner.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the LASD Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500. Those wishing to remain anonymous may call "Crime Stoppers" at (800) 222-8477.
