Senator Dianne Feinstein has been hospitalized and is being treated for a case of shingles, her representative confirmed.

SAN FRANCISCO -- Senator Diane Feinstein has been in a San Francisco hospital, receiving treatment for a case of shingles, a representative from her office confirmed Thursday.

"I was diagnosed over the February recess with a case of shingles. I have been hospitalized and am receiving treatment in San Francisco and expect to make a full recovery. I hope to return to the Senate later this month," Feinstein said in a statement.

Feinstein is expected to make a full recovery -- she was diagnosed with the virus days ago.

A spokesperson says she has missed several votes in the Senate and a couple of committee meetings.

Just a few weeks ago the 89-year-old announced she would not be running for re-election.
