Santa Monica bridge honored with design award

SANTA MONICA, Calif. -- It snakes down from the Palisades Park cliffs to Santa Monica Beach.

The spiral pedestrian bridge, known officially as the Idaho Avenue Overcrossing, is a favorite for those who seek design in utilitarian objects.

And now it's been named California's Outstanding Bikeway and Trails Project for 2017.

It's an award given out by the American Society of Civil Engineers.

It's the third major award for the $1.9 million bike and foot bridge.
