LA Clippers rookie point guard Jason Preston underwent surgery on his right foot Thursday and is expected to miss a significant portion of this season, sources told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

Preston suffered the injury in a workout prior to the team opening its training camp. He was traded to the Clippers after being drafted by Orlando with the 33rd overall pick out of Ohio University, where he averaged 15.7 points, 7.3 rebounds and 7.3 assists last season.

The Clippers liked what they saw from the point guard's passing and playmaking ability during offseason workouts prior to his injury.

The team has Eric Bledsoe and Reggie Jackson at point guard, and both are expected to start in the backcourt for coach Ty Lue. Paul George, Terance Mann and Justise Winslow are expected to help with playmaking as well.
