SACRAMENTO (KABC) -- Some wildfire survivors are urging state lawmakers to oppose limits on how much private utilities must pay if they are found responsible for catastrophic wildfires.

The group argues that the proposed limit does not help prevent future fires.

Members said three companies caused three of the five most expensive wildfires ever recorded.

ABC7 has reached out to Gov. Gavin Newsom's office for comment but has not received a response.

The push from wildfire survivors comes as debate continues over how utilities should be held accountable when their equipment is determined to have caused major wildfires.
