HOLLYWOOD, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Workers are making repairs to Dolly Parton's star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame after it was vandalized earlier this week.

Crews have been polishing the legendary singer's star and preparing it to be reopened to the public. The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce said the site should be ready for public viewing again by Friday.

The vandalism occurred Monday night, less than a week after Parton's death. Fans expressed disbelief after learning the star had been targeted.

Parton died last month at age 80. Since her death, fans have honored the singer with an outpouring of tributes.

Flowers, cards and other memorial items had been placed at her Hollywood Walk of Fame star just hours before the vandalism occurred.
