Hundreds of bald people gather for community meetup in Glendale

GLENDALE, Calif. (KABC) -- Hundreds of bald Californians gathered in Glendale on Saturday for a free "Bald Meetup" full of community and friendly competition.

The event brought together bald people, as well as some attendees wearing bald caps in solidarity. Organizers and attendees described the gathering as a chance to connect, celebrate and support one another.

At one point, one attendee had their head shaved in solidarity with a loved one.

“It was already in the back of my mind already, but then they're like, ‘Oh, $100.’ I'm like, ‘Well, s---. I was already thinking about it. $100? Why not?’” said Jaads Timmons of Lake Isabella.

Others said the meetup offered a welcoming space for people considering shaving their heads.

“If you feel like it's time, shave, do it. It's never too late. All shapes are welcome,” said Brad Stoll from Burbank.

CJ Burnley, of Van Nuys, said the gathering reflected a shared sense of connection among bald people.

“We've got to stick together, definitely. It's a brotherhood/sisterhood. A lot of camaraderie behind it,” Burnley said. “You see somebody bald walking down the street, automatically you get that ‘wassup’ head nod. It's natural. It comes automatically.”

Attendees said they are excited to meet every year and continue celebrating the community.
