COMPTON, Calif. (KABC) -- The parents and grandmother of an 8-year-old boy whose body was found wrapped in plastic inside a freezer in Lynwood appeared in a Compton court on Monday for the first day of a preliminary hearing in the child’s murder case.

The boy, identified as Isaiah H., was found inside a freezer kept in a bedroom closet. His mother, Destiny Harrison; his father, Daniel Monzon; and his paternal grandmother, Ana Zarceno, face murder and torture charges.

A mother was arrested for murder after a 7-year-old child was found dead inside a freezer at an apartment in Lynwood, Eyewitness News has learned.

According to a criminal complaint, Isaiah was allegedly abused by the three defendants "over a long period of time." The child succumbed to his injuries early on Oct. 24, 2025 and his body was found on Oct. 28, 2025 in the cooler.

Monzon’s best friend testified that he was called to the family’s home last October. The witness said he was initially told that Isaiah was sick, and later learned that Harrison had struck the boy.

“Destiny had hit him, and hit him so hard that he fell and hit his head,” the witness testified.

Community members in Lynwood gathered to remember a 7-year-old boy who was found dead inside a freezer at his family's apartment.

When asked whether anyone called 911, he responded, “No, they were scared.”

The witness testified that Zarceno later told him Isaiah had died. When asked what Zarceno said happened next, the witness responded, “Ana said that her and Destiny took the body inside and wrapped it up with saran wrap and she had t,o like, go buy a freezer.”

The witness said Harrison later opened the freezer.

“I saw the body of Isaiah, in there, wrapped,” he testified.

The witness also testified that he saw Isaiah’s face through a hole that had been ripped in a black plastic bag. He said the family then asked him for help.

“That was the favor they were going to ask me. Asking me if I would help them dispose of the body,” he testified.

Each of the three defendants has a separate attorney, and tension among the defense teams emerged during the examination of witnesses.

Monzon’s half-sister was the final witness to testify Monday. She said Zarceno had been abusive toward her while she was growing up. Earlier, Harrison’s sister testified that Monzon was abusive.
