SUNLAND, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- The eastbound 210 Freeway was temporarily closed in Sunland Tuesday morning due to a device next to the shoulder that looked like a grenade, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

A construction crew found the object around 8 a.m. in a dirt area near Sunland Boulevard.

A bomb squad safely detonated the device just before 10:30 a.m. Police say it appeared to be an inert grenade with a rusted handle. The freeway was reopened about 30 minutes later.
