WESTWOOD, Calif. (KABC) -- There are about 90,000 veterans buried at Los Angeles National Cemetery in Westwood, and on Memorial Day, each one of them were honored.
"We're sorry you are not here with us, but we are there with you in heart and soul, and bless your souls, and bless your families, and know you will not be forgotten," said Michael Gregory, a veteran who attended Monday's ceremony.
Eyewitness News reporter Leo Stallworth was a speaker at the event, and many who have lost a loved one said they felt a sense of unity.
"[It's] wonderful to see everybody turn out for this very special day to not only honor those that served but those who sacrificed all," said Gail Johnson, whose son, Army Specialist Daniel Cagle, was killed while serving in 2007.
"There's not a day that goes by that I don't think about my son," she said. "It's been 18 yrs. His angel anniversary was on Friday, his birthday was last Monday. I'm blessed to know a lot of other Gold Star mothers, and we share that burden of grief."
