Farina was booked by airport police on investigation of carrying a concealed weapon, which is a misdemeanor. It was later upgraded to a felony after authorities realized the gun was loaded and he didn't have a permit to carry the weapon in California.

Authorities say Farina told them he was driving from Arizona to California and forgot the gun was in briefcase. They described the actor as cooperative.

Farina bailed out of a Van Nuys jail around 9:30 Sunday night. He released a statement through his publicist apologizing for any embarrassment or inconvenience the situation may have caused.

Farina told police he was once a sworn officer with the Chicago Police Department.

Farina is a popular television and movie actor, and has starred in the TV show "Law & Order" and the movie "What Happens In Vegas," which opened this weekend.
