LOS ANGELES --The L.A. Marathon will now happen on Memorial Day starting next year. The marathon is traditionally run on the first Sunday in March, but when Dodgers owner Frank McCourt acquired the rights the race, the City Council said it had to be moved to a Monday so it wouldn't cause problems for churches.
The race was shifted to Presidents Day, but that turned out to cause concerns over traffic. Memorial Day was then chosen because it usually has less traffic.
