Thieves steal items donated for troops

Thieves made off with about $8,000 worth of donated clothing, blankets and other items destined for U.S. troops stationed overseas.The boxed items were in a motor home outside the Bay Cities Italian Bakery in Compton. Bakery owners Linda and Mario Ferrara had collected the goods and were planning to take them to Ventura County to be shipped to Germany.

Linda Ferrara found the motor home ransacked last weekend.

She says she plans to collect more donations.

The Ferraras have three sons in the army. Another son was killed in Afghanistan.

Anyone with information on the theft is asked to call the sheriff's department in Compton at (310) 605-6500.
