LAPD gets 2 upright cart-scooters

LOS ANGELES The electric-powered vehicles are similar to Segways, but they have three wheels. Officers can stand on the scooter like vehicles and cover a lot of ground quickly. They have a top speed of 12 miles per hour.

Officials say they're ideal because they're easy to maneuver through big crowds, and they're environmentally friendly.

Officers plan to use them at the mall, in parking lots and during parades.
