Study links workplace morale, depression

April 15, 2009 11:58:00 AM PDT
A new study finds a link between low workplace morale and depression, but the question remains, does low morale lead to depression, or do depressed people have low job morale? The study, which appears in the journal Occupational and Environmental Medicine, looked at more than 3,000 Finnish workers in a variety of workplaces.

Researchers found that people in what are described as "prejudiced" or "quarrelsome" work environments were 61 percent more likely to be depressed, and were also at a greater risk of suffering anxiety.

However, researchers could not determine whether the poor work environment led to depression, or was a consequence of it.
