LOS ANGELES --The L.A. City Council voted unanimously to pay just over $8 million, awarded to two firefighters who won separate discrimination and retaliation lawsuits two years ago.Capt. Frank Lima will receive $4.8 million. Lima claimed that department officials retaliated against him when he refused to make training exercises easier for female recruits.
Former firefighter Lewis "Steve" Bressler will receive $3.3 million. Bressler claimed retaliation for helping a colleague who alleged racial, gender and sexual orientation discrimination.
