Doctors: You can die from a broken heart

Cardiologists say intense emotion, including the pain of losing a loved one, can damage not just the emotional heart, but the physical one too, and it feels just like a heart attack.

It differs from a heart attack, in which a blood vessel that feeds the heart muscle is blocked. With broken heart syndrome, the heart is damaged by a surge of chemicals released by strong emotion, fear or sadness.

Doctors say in the vast majority of cases, broken heart syndrome is reversible.
