Man killed trying to stop fight in Apple Valley

APPLE VALLEY, Calif. A spokesman for the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department said deputies were called at 8:45 p.m. Thursday to the complex in the 20400 block of Zuni. When deputies arrived they found Michael Subacz suffering from a gunshot wound. Subacz was transported to St. Mary Medical Center where he died.

Investigators said an argument escalated to a physical altercation between several females. The apartment manager and Subacz stepped in to try to calm the situation and were assaulted by three male suspects. One of the suspects then shot Subacz.

Deputies said the three men ran away and have not yet been arrested.
