Large jail fight breaks out in downtown L.A.

LOS ANGELES LAPD officers were called in to help control a disturbance that broke out at the Metropolitan Detention Center located on Alameda Street.

According to authorities, 10 inmates were involved in the fight that began at about 7:00 p.m.

Two staff members were hospitalized with non-threatening injuries. Two other staff members were treated at the scene for minor injuries.

Officials say the incident was quickly contained and there was no threat to the security of the facility.

There is no word on how the fight began.

The Bureau of Prisons operates the facility, where men and women charged with federal crimes are held, including immigration violators awaiting deportation.
