30K hit hot pavement to Race for the Cure

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. The race, which took place in Newport Beach, is the largest such race in the world.

Around 1,700 participants in the 5K run-walk are breast cancer survivors.

Organizers hope to raise three million dollars by the end of October, and 75 percent of that will be used for outreach, screening and treatment programs in Orange County.

The remaining 25 percent goes to the national Susan G. Komen foundation to be used strictly for research.
