Actor Michael Caine admitted that he accelerated his terminally-ill father's death by requesting a fatal overdose from the doctor.Caine told Classic FM during a radio interview that he could not bear to see his father in pain. He said the doctor initially turned down his request but told the 77-year-old actor to return to the hospital at midnight.

"I came back at midnight and my father died at five past 12. So he'd done it." Caine said.

Caine's father, Maurice Micklewhite, died after suffering liver cancer at the age of 56 in 1955.

The transcript of the radio interview was widely published in British media before being broadcast on Saturday.
