White Pages could go the way of the dinosaurs

LOS ANGELES These days most people just use Google to find phone numbers. That's one of the reasons Verizon wants permission from the California Public Utilities Commission to stop printing the White Pages.

New York, Florida and Pennsylvania have already approved the request. Verizon says more people are apt to log on to WhitePages.com than flip through the hard copy.

Verizon would save money but the phone company isn't saying how much.

Verizon says if the PUC approves the request, it would stop printing the White Pages in California next year but customers would still be able to request one, either in book form or CD-ROM.
