Laguna Beach rug store owner arrested for rape

SANTA ANA, Calif.

Laguna Niguel resident Saeid Maralan, 53, was held on $1 million bail and appeared in court Tuesday on felony charges of forcible rape, attempted rape, sexual penetration by foreign object by force, and distributing pornography to a minor with a sentencing enhancement allegation for committing a sexual offense against more than one victim, according to the Orange County District Attorney's Office.

Maralan's arraignment was continued to October.

Maralan owns Sirous and Sons, a rug store, in Laguna Beach. Maralan is accused of attempting to rape a store customer in April 2010.

Maralan is accused of raping a store employee on May 15, 2010.

Maralan is accused of showing pornography to a minor, a female teenage intern, in March 2011.

Maralan is accused of the attempted rape of a job applicant in August 2011.

Maralan is a registered sex offender after being convicted of sexual battery in 2002.

If convicted, Maralan faces a maximum sentence of 34 years to life in state prison, according to the OCDA.
