The vaccine against whooping cough appears to lose its effectiveness faster than doctors first believed.

A new study shows the impact of the vaccine loses effectiveness after just three years.

Scientists say the finding could help explain a recent series of outbreaks in the U.S. among children who were supposedly fully vaccinated.

The findings also add to the debate over whether children should be given booster shots earlier than now recommended.
