Elementary school principal arrested for sex with student

WEST COVINA, Calif.

As a principal, Daniel Weston was supposed to protect the young students in his care, but police say the 47-year-old used his position of power to target a young victim.

"Allegedly he had committed lewd acts with a female student under the age of 14," said Officer Bradley White of the Whittier Police Department.

Investigators say it occurred in January 2008 while Weston was principal at Whittier Adventist Elementary School on Calmada Avenue.

Weston was arrested Tuesday at West Covina Hills Adventist School, where he is now the principal. He remains behind bars on $100,000 bail.

Given his access to young children, authorities fear there may be more victims.

"It's tragic to have a principal, where families bring their children to learn and they trust teachers and principals to take care of their children, and to come to light that he has committed a lewd act with a minor," said White.

Anyone with information about Weston was asked to contact the Whittier Police Department at (562) 567-9267.
