Dog stolen in OC home invasion reunites w/ family; suspect at large

STANTON, Calif.

A homeowner saw a man in his backyard Wednesday morning. The suspect apparently was trying to make off with two bird cages containing two parrots and a parakeet.

The homeowner shouted at the man, who then drew a gun and chased him inside the house. The robber broke down two locked doors and found the homeowner hiding in the bathroom.

The homeowner pleaded for his life as the robber held a gun to his head. The robber did not shoot, but took off with a computer, other items and the family dog.

"I thought it was my last days on earth, because he was really pointing the gun. I thought he was going to shoot me," the homeowner said.

Orange County sheriff's spokesman Jim Amormino was at the scene, and decided to drive around the neighborhood to look for the Chihuahua. He found it a few blocks away and returned it to the family.
