Jimmy Kimmel says he'll pull prank at Emmys

LOS ANGELES

"I'm going to do something on the show that I think is going to be a very big deal virally after the show, and during the show," Kimmel said. "I can't tell you what it is because it would ruin it. But I promise, if you're watching the show, you will be in on the prank. If you are not watching the show, you will be a prankee."

Kimmel says he is a big fan of television.

"Your whole life, people tell you that watching television is a waste of time," said Kimmel. "And for most people, for 99 percent of the population, it is a waster of their time and bad for their brains and bodies. But for you and me, specifically, it's really turned out to be great."

The late night talk show host watches almost every show up for Emmys this year, "except for those BBC mini-series and documentaries. Nobody watches that nonsense."

Kimmel has several things planned for Sunday night, including a surprise for his parents, who will be flying in for the event.

"I'm planning to embarrass my parents on the show," Kimmel said. "I have been huddling with my brother and sister trying to come up with the perfect thing because I figure this is the biggest audience I've ever had on television -- 20 million people -- what can I say about my parents that will make my mom mad at me afterwards?"

The Emmys kick off with a live pre-show, "On the Red Carpet at the Emmys," at 2 p.m., then the Emmy telecast begins at 5 p.m. on ABC7.
