Oxnard man rescued from burning car after crash

OXNARD, Calif.

The crash happened around 3:15 p.m. at the intersection of Rose Avenue and Pleasant Valley Road in Oxnard.

Police say Troy Lantaya, 26, was driving westbound and entered the intersection while the traffic light was red. Officers say a 66-year-old man was driving southbound and entered the intersection while the traffic light was green. The two vehicles collided.

Lantaya's car was pushed across the median and into another vehicle being driven by a 26-year-old man.

The engine of Lantaya's car caught fire, and the flames spread to the rest of the vehicle. Police say a driver and a witness rushed to the car and pulled Lantaya out to safety. He was then transported to Ventura County Medical Center and treated for moderate injuries.

Firefighters responded to the scene and extinguished the fire.

Investigators say they are working to determine if drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.
