Vagrant arrested breaking into flower store

November 27, 2013 12:00:00 AM PST
A 52-year-old transient was arrested for attempting to break into a Ventura flower shop early Wednesday morning.

Ventura Police received a 911 call from the manager of Colorview Floral on Valentine Road at 2:25 a.m. The manager was staying in the business overnight in order to deter thefts, police said. The manager said he heard two men enter the business and discuss how to access the interior.

Officers responded and located Victor Gutierrez, 52, described by police as a Ventura vagrant. Gutierrez was in the process of manipulating one of the business's windows, police said.

Officers searched but did not locate the second suspect.

Gutierrez was arrested for prowling.

The investigation was ongoing. Anyone with information related to the incident was urged to call the Ventura Police Department at (805) 339-4441.
