Homicide detectives are looking for a white vehicle possibly involved in the shootings of two men that occurred within 10 minutes and a few blocks of each other in South Los Angeles.

Jacoby Plummer, 26, was gunned down on Saturday near Avalon Boulevard at the 105 Freeway after picking up his 13-year-old niece from the hospital. The LAPD believes Plummer was murdered in a case of mistaken identity. The department emphasized that Plummer did not have gang ties.

Plummer worked for New Design Charter School in Athens Village as a janitor for seven years.

Police at first said Plummer had possible gang ties, but school administrators and family members insisted that was not the case. They called him a mentor to the students he served. The LAPD later clarified that Plummer had no gang ties. The department believes the murder was a case of mistaken identity.

A vigil was held for Plummer on Monday night.

A second man, 38-year-old Calvin Williams was shot to death within 10 minutes and a few blocks of Plummer. It was unclear if the shootings were related.
