Disneyland employee in grave condition after being shot in liver during Vegas shooting

LAS VEGAS (KABC) -- The family of a 23-year-old woman who was severely injured in the Las Vegas shooting are hoping she will pull through.

Jessica Milam went into surgery Friday afternoon and will remain there for a few hours. Her condition went from good to bad to worse, and now her family doesn't know what's next.

All they can do is wait anxiously for her to get out of surgery.

"I mean it's hard. But you know there's a lot of love, we've got a good family," uncle Ty Hanson said.

The Disneyland employee was at the Route 91 Harvest Festival, when a barrage of bullets rained down on concertgoers. She was shot in the liver and doctors found shrapnel in her lungs.

She's fighting for her life and she's been placed on dialysis because her kidneys are shutting down, Hanson said.

Milam is a hostess at Disneyland, and her family credits her coworker for getting her to a hospital.

"As soon as I felt that shot go through her. I was like, 'I'm not leaving her. She's getting out of here alive,'" Destene Albert said.

But despite her heroic efforts, Milam's health has been unpredictable.

"Tuesday, I talked to my sister, 'Hey, don't worry about coming to Vegas. We should be home by Sunday.' In the matter of an hour, it all just flipped. We almost lost her twice Wednesday night," Hanson said.

The family remains on edge and hopes for the best as doctors do everything they can to save Milam. But it is unclear what will happen when she gets out of surgery.
