LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- WonderCon, the sister show to Comic-Con, is moving to the Los Angeles for its 2016 event, the Los Angeles Convention Center announced on Monday.

"Los Angeles is honored to have been selected as the destination for WonderCon 2016," said L.A. Mayor Eric Garcetti in a statement. "We look forward to establishing a long-term partnership with Comic-Con International, the presenter, and helping them establish a home-base in L.A. We anticipate the show to be highly attended and to set the precedent for future successful Comic-Con events in L.A."

WonderCon started in Oakland in 1987 as "the Wonderful World of Comics Convention," according to the website, and by the third year, WonderCon became the official name.

For the past four years, the show was held at the Anaheim Convention Center.

WonderCon will be at the L.A. Convention Center March 25 to March 27 in 2016.
