Man strangles cat during fit of rage in Redondo Beach

REDONDO BEACH, Calif. (KABC) -- A man has been arrested for strangling a cat inside his girlfriend's garage in Redondo Beach during a fit of rage.

Redondo Beach police officers discovered the deceased cat in the 2300 block of Carnegie Lane at 1:10 a.m. The cat was believed to be rescued from an animal shelter.

Sergei Smirnoff, 23, of Long Beach was arrested for animal cruelty. He is being held at the Redondo Beach jail in lieu of $20,000 bail.

The suspect is due in a Torrance courtroom on Monday.
