Stray bullet from Canoga Park gang shooting kills man leaving work

CANOGA PARK, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A small memorial is seen near the tragic scene of where a man was killed by gunfire in Canoga Park.

Detectives say the victim had just gotten into his vehicle to head home from work when gang members in one car fired at rival gang members in another car just before 6 p.m. Tuesday at Eton Avenue and Sherman Way.

A stray bullet killed the man near his job. The coroner's office identified him as 33-year-old Eduardo Rebolledo-Ramirez.

One witness, who did not want to be identified, said he saw people in two cars shooting at each other.

"First I heard two shots go off, and then a second or two later, heard about another three or four shots," he said. "The victim just happened to be parked on the side of the road, just got in his truck ready to go home, getting off of work, when the shots went off and he took one to the back of the head."

Bill Detamore says he would often see the victim working at a heating and cooling business next door to his business. Detamore says what scares him the most is that he could have been the one killed.

"Just a guy working, supporting his family," Detamore said. "A total tragedy ... it's just senseless."

Residents say gang violence appears to be escalating in the area, and after Tuesday's tragedy, Barbara Leon says she fears even going out doors.

"I've lived here for 51 years, and it's just getting worse and worse," she said.
