Two South Pasadena High School students were charged in connection with allegedly planning a mass shooting at their school, the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office announced Wednesday.

The teens, 16 and 17, faced one count of making criminal threats. They allegedly shared their plot with another teen, who they later threatened to kill, prosecutors said.

"My wife and I would like to apologize to the whole community, every student, every parent, every faculty that we do not condone any kind of behavior," said Vic Bazerkanian, a suspect's stepfather.

On Monday, South Pasadena police arrested the teens at their homes after receiving a tip from school officials that they planned to kill three staff members and as many students as possible, police said.

Extra security is expected to be at all South Pasadena schools when classes begin Thursday.
