LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A bizarre incident on the road ended with a woman in the hospital and a suspect in custody early Monday morning.

Police say a suspect repeatedly rammed his pickup truck into a Mini Cooper carrying two people.

The incident started just after midnight at Sunset Boulevard and Hyperion Avenue in Silver Lake, and continued for more than a mile to Hoover and Temple streets.

Police say the man eventually stepped out of his truck with a shotgun in his hand. No shots were fired, and it was later determined that the shotgun was not loaded.

The suspect was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon. A woman inside the Mini Cooper was transported to a hospital with unknown injuries.

The motive remains under investigation. Police say the man may have some sort of mental illness and that the victims did not know him.
