Police said two people, a man and a woman, where killed in a car-to-car shooting in San Bernardino.

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. (KABC) -- Two people died after a car-to-car shooting in San Bernardino near 29th Street and Pershing Avenue, police said.

A man inside a Honda was declared dead at the scene, while a woman who was also shot was transported to a local hospital where she later died, officials said.

The victims' Honda crashed into a home's carport at 29th and Pershing, south of the 210 Freeway at about 3:15 p.m.

"I came walking out here to see what was going on and the car was still running and revving up at a high RPM and everything and I guess it was still in gear," one eyewitness, who asked not to be identified, said.

The suspect's car never stopped and was seen speeding off, according to officials. Police did not have a description of the vehicle, but a witness told ABC7 it was a light-colored, older-model Toyota with a spoiler on the back.

The San Bernardino Police Department said the deaths were the 21st and 22nd documented homicides in the city for 2016. That's up nearly 70 percent over the same time in 2015.

Officials said they were investigating whether the shooting was gang-related and were looking into surveillance video in the area.
