VALLE VISTA, Calif. (KABC) -- A 61-year-old woman is recovering after being attacked by a pit bull while on a walk in an unincorporated area of Riverside County.

The incident happened on the 25500 block of Minorca Street in the Valle Vista area. Officials with animal services say the 1-year-old dog broke free from its tether around 6:45 p.m. Monday.

The woman was taken to an area hospital for injuries to her head, arms and stomach.

The owner of the dog turned the animal over for humane euthanasia.
