BOYLE HEIGHTS, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A popular taco stand in Boyle Heights was closing its doors to make way for a Panda Express, and the restaurant's regulars were outraged.

Carnitas Michoacan #3 isn't just a taco stand, as many customers call the place an institution and are incredibly sad to learn its closing.

The restaurant, located on the corner of Soto Street and Whittier Boulevard, has been in Boyle Heights for more than 30 years.

On Friday, signs were posted that read the owner was "being forced to close" because the landlord wants to open a Panda Express.

Customers said a "corporate fast food joint" like that was not needed, and employees of the taco business felt the same.

Meantime, they were preparing to leave with glimmer of hope that a judge will change his mind.
