ANAHEIM, Calif. -- The Los Angeles Angels have designated outfielder Efren Navarro for assignment. The team also announced the signing of reliever Al Alburquerque on Tuesday.

Navarro has batted .246 in parts of four big league seasons with the Angels and has played both in the outfield and at first base. The 50th-round pick never got a shot at an everyday job in Anaheim, even when the Angels had no steady left fielder the past season.

The Angels confirmed last week that they had signed Alburquerque, who became a free agent last month, after the Detroit Tigers declined to offer him a 2016 contract.

Alburquerque got a one-year, $1.1 million deal with up to $550,000 in performance bonuses. He can earn $25,000 for pitching 30 and 35 innings; $50,000 each for 40, 45 and 50 innings; $75,000 for 55 and 60 innings; and $100,000 for 65 and 70 innings.
