Blue Jays to sign J.P. Howell to one-year deal

The Toronto Blue Jays have worked out a one-year, $3 million deal with left-handed reliever J.P. Howell, pending a physical, sources tell ESPN's Buster Olney.

Howell has spent his past four seasons with the Los Angeles Dodgers, posting a 4.09 ERA with 44 strikeouts and a 1.40 WHIP in 50 2/3 innings last year. From 2013 to 2015, he was one of the top lefty relievers in the league, logging a 1.97 ERA across 155 innings.

The 33-year-old has a 3.77 ERA and 1.33 WHIP in his 11-year major league career. He was a key member of the Tampa Bay Rays from 2006 to 2012 before signing with the Dodgers.
