MEXICO CITY -- LA Galaxy forward Giovani dos Santos believes Mexico are stronger than ever and ready to make history this summer.

"It's a generation that is forged to make history," the 28-year-old Dos Santos said ahead of El Tri's match against Honduras on Thursday in Estadio Azteca. "Two [World Cup qualifying] games are coming up in which we can seal [qualification].

"In the Confederations Cup, we have the possibility of making history with this group we have and I hope that becomes reality," added Dos Santos.

The former Barcelona forward joined up with the Mexico squad this week and is in form after netting five goals this May.

Dos Santos was sat alongside his friend and fellow 2005 Under-17 World Cup winner Carlos Vela and stressed the strength of the group that coach Juan Carlos Osorio has at his disposal.

"I see a stronger group, increasingly united, more committed," stressed Dos Santos. "We've been working very hard in training and off the field the relationship between everyone is spectacular. We hope that those relations are seen on the field."

Mexico coach Osorio gave a strong hint that Andres Guardado and Nestor Araujo -- who fractured a finger against Croatia last month -- would be rested for the World Cup qualifier against Honduras, while Rafa Marquez is still returning to full fitness and Jurgen Damm may also not be involved due to injury.

"Andres [Guardado] is doing individual work, but if it was a final tomorrow, he'd be there, but we'll wait and see, like with Nestor [Aruajo]," said Osorio. "Rafael [Marquez], as you all know, he in a process of adaptation and he's been given the all clear."

Mexico enter into the match against Honduras on 10 points from their first four matches in the hexagonal, while Honduras are in fifth on four points.

El Tri face rival the United States on Sunday in Estadio Azteca, before heading to Russia immediately after.
