'Suspicious' Boyle Heights church fire under investigation
Officials are assessing the damage and trying to determine what sparked what they say is a suspicious fire at a Boyle Heights church.

BOYLE HEIGHTS, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Officials on Thursday are trying to determine what sparked what they say is a suspicious fire at a Boyle Heights church.

Los Angeles Fire Department firefighters knocked down the blaze in less than 30 minutes after the fire was reported around 2 a.m. at Resurrection Church in the 3300 block of E. Opal Street, fire officials said.

The fire was contained to the 1st floor of the historic building, and no injuries were reported.

LAFD and LAPD officials said the fire was deemed suspicious, and arson investigators were conducting an investigation at the scene.

Information on a possible suspect was not released.

Crews at the scene were also assessing the extent of both fire and water damage inside the building.
